Enjoying the Colorado sunshine is why we love to live in Colorado. It is also a main reason Colorado has a very high incidence of cataracts. UV light is known to damage the eye from front to back. In the middle of the eye is a lens much like a pair of glasses, made up of proteins, cells, and water. These proteins and cells break down and cause a yellowing or brown discoloration in your vision that you don’t notice right away because it builds up over time. Eventually the lens has opaque(white) spots in it which decrease your vision and cause GLARE at night and from headlights. At a certain point cataract surgery is indicated and we can monitor you before, and after your surgery. Although this is part of a natural aging process, their can be other induced forms of cataracts from diabetes or trauma.
